Damian Green

Damian Green is a Senior Adviser at Bridgehead Communications. He provides strategic counsel to the firm’s social care, health and policy-focused clients. He brings more than three decades of frontline political and policy experience at the highest levels of British government, alongside a longstanding commitment to reforming adult social care.

Damian Green

Damian served as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Ashford from 1997 to 2024. During that time, he held several senior ministerial roles, including Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and First Secretary of State, effectively serving as Deputy Prime Minister. He was also Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice and Immigration Minister at the Home Office. Across these portfolios, he led major public service reforms, oversaw complex departmental budgets, and worked at the centre of cross-government decision-making.

Earlier in his career, Damian served in the No.10 Policy Unit under Prime Minister John Major, advising on domestic policy and public service reform. That experience at the heart of government gave him a detailed understanding of how policy is shaped, negotiated between departments, and delivered in practice. He now brings that expertise to organisations operating in highly regulated environments.

Throughout his parliamentary career, Damian played a leading role in shaping national debate on adult social care. He served as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Adult Social Care, using the role to convene cross-party dialogue, gather evidence from sector leaders, and push for sustainable long-term funding reform. He has chaired influential commissions and authored major policy reports examining the financial sustainability of the care system, the integration of health and social care, and the structural changes required to meet the needs of an ageing population.

He is currently Chair of The Social Care Foundation, where he continues to advance serious cross-party discussion on the future of Britain’s social care system. His work focuses on demographic change, workforce pressures, innovation, and the case for a durable funding settlement.

At Bridgehead Communications, Damian advises care providers, CareTech innovators and sector leaders on policy positioning, government engagement and long-term strategy. He helps clients understand the direction of reform, from funding and regulation to NHS integration and neighbourhood-based care, and how to align their organisations with emerging political and policy priorities.

His experience at the highest levels of government, combined with his specialist expertise in social care policy, enables Bridgehead’s clients to engage confidently with policymakers, anticipate regulatory shifts, and contribute credibly to national reform conversations.

"Adult social care is entering a decisive period. Demographic pressures, workforce shortages and unresolved funding questions mean that the current model is under strain. At the same time, there is growing recognition across Parliament that the system requires long-term reform and a more coherent relationship between health and care.

"Bridgehead works at the heart of these debates, advising organisations that are directly delivering services and innovating within the sector. I am pleased to be joining the firm to help clients understand the direction of reform, contribute constructively to national discussion and position themselves for the changes that lie ahead."
